Something strange is happening:  For quite some time now, I'm not
finding any crossposts from AUE in the AEU download.  I'm wondering if
my newsreader has somehow changed to omit crossposts from a group that
has previously been downloaded.  I'm crossposting this as a test to
see what happens.

Okay, the crosspost appeared in both downloads, as would be expected.
There just must be hardly anyone crossposting to AEU these days.

I wonder why.

I've never been particularly interested in posting to AEU.  AUE has the
majority of traffic about the English language.  I'll leave this message
crossposted.

However, I think following AEU may reach some worthwhile posters who
seem to not post to AUE.  Also the signal-to-noise ratio may be higher
in AEU than in AUE.  But I haven't been reading either group much in
the past year or so, so my impression may not be up-to-date.

By the way, in case anyone's interested, I've finally--through a
determined effort--located the place in my newsreader where the
persona defaulted to Sydney Sorenson.  I've been changing it manually
when I've thought about it, but I've too often forgotten.  I've
changed the default, so it shouldn't happen anymore.

(If this posting says it's from Sydney Sorenson, will that be an
illustration of Skitt's Law?)

I find the posters here more interesting than in AEU.

They're all crossposting to sci.lang instead.

Indeed.  FWIW, I've finally started killing all threads with that
crosspost.

Originally, I hoped to learn something from the crossposts, but
since I'm not very interested in what appears to be the scientific
side of linguistics, I have yet to see anything even remotely
useful added to discussions of usage from that group.

(Although it may or may not be typical of sci.lang, there also
seems to be a lot yah-boo-sucks stuff from that side -- and since
I'm not 12 years old any more, that doesn't really appeal very
much.)

That's cruel, really cruel.  You don't do things like that to someone
of Bob's age.

It is something that you can configure in Agent.  Look at what you have
in Folder | Default Properties | Receiving Messages | Usenet
Crossposting.

Yes, thank you, I have long been aware of that feature and have had
things set to my preferred mode, which is to download crossposted
posts but to ask me when I move the posts to archive whether I want to
move the ones that are crossposted to AEU.  I always say no and delete
the dupes.

I find it sorta interesting to see how many crossposts are taking
place and who's crossposting.

The answer to my puzzlement that I started this thread with is simply
that almost no one was crossposting to AEU for quite some time.
