'American Express? - that'll do nicely!'.

An English TV ad, circa 1983, where various men would present their plastic
to a succession of beautiful women who would reply, as above, in a posh,
alluring manner.

And then, one day, BBC2's Not the Nine O'Clock News had Pamela Stephenson
say...

'American Express? - that'll do nicely and would you like to rub my tits?',

and the ad was *never* seen again, lol!

Didn't Pamela also pull open her blouse as if to make said mammeries
more accessible? Or is that just the distortions of my more fevered
imagination playing havoc on my memory (again)?

Agreed! Other comedy sketches of some relevance to this newsgroup can be
found here:

Unfortunately, I can't find the Two Ronnies sketch I particularly like:
the sketch involving, I think, the Slobodian Restaurant, in which
Corbett visits a foreign restaurant in London (one presumes) where
Barker is the waiter who speaks little or no English. Unfortunately,
many Slobodian dishes have names that sound like English words (if a
little mangled at times). So every request Corbett makes, or. later,
every complaint he makes, is taken to be yet another item ordered from
the menu. For instance, at one point Corbett says, angrily
"Disgusting!", to which the waiter responds "Ok, Deece Gustings...
That's a hell of a lot of gustings..." (they turn out to be coconut
halves with carrots sticking out of the centre of them). At the end,
when Corbett gives up and asks for "The bill", that is yet another item
from the menu: in this case, a mound of rice with assorted strange stuff
surrounding it, and a toucan's beak pointing up out of the centre of the
mound.

In another message (Message-ID: <VA.00000103.0059106a@me.invalid> ),
Daniel James corrects some errors I made about Frankie Howerd and Up
Pompeii! (Howerd played the part of Lurcio and not Ludicrus Sextus).
Many thanks to him for correcting me!

Do you recall the Swedish (?) restaurant:

"FUNEX?"
"SVFX"
"FUNEM?"
"SVFM"
"LFMNX"

it!

I made up that line, but when I viewed the video, I saw that it was in
that.

Yes. very funny. I think I gave a link to that in the message you
commented on, but perhaps it didn't come through correctly?

I'm fairly sure that that one was Benny Hill, and that the "language" was
supposed to be German.

Another example of Hill's German involved a German lady writing to the
south-east England pen-friend:
