Adam Scott, golfer, said:

"On 11, I hit probably the best shot of the day I could hit with a
6-iron and I thought it was going in the hole," Scott continued.
"It comes up short in the bunker face. It's unexplainable."

Inexplicable, surely?

Almost certainly not: There is a physical explanation and if that
golfer says things like that, correct English is the last of his
worries.

The man's a golfer, Fran.  He's not expected to pick the right words;
just the right clubs.

Since "inexplicable" means "incapable of being explained", I think
usage was close enough to the hole to be a gimme.

Of course, with $3.8 million in winnings so far this year, he could
afford to hire an English teacher - even a full Professor - to carry a
second bag with a Thesaurus in it.

Or more briefly, "inexplicable" means "unexplainable".  WTP?

"WTP?"?  That's quite incomprehensible to me.  Incognizable, in fact.
Impenetrable, you might say.  Unfathomable, even.

Hey, Tony, What's The Problem?  I find it easily comprehensible.
Understandable, in fact.  Fully penetrable.

Very true. I picked my wife up the other day on her use of "unsolvable"
for "insoluble" - but I could hardly claim that I didn't know what she
had meant. For all I know, "unsolvable" may be in the dictionary.

M-W shows unsolvable, insolvable and insoluble, plus unexplainable,
inexplainable and inexplicable.

"We have no children...you see, my wife is impregnable...er, I mean she is
unbearable...that is to say, she is inconceivable...beg pardon, of course I mean
to say she is inscrutable"....

"I do understand, old man...your wife is insurmountable"....r

"Inexplainable"? That's quite inacceptable.

OED2's entry for "Unexplainable, a.:"

Inexplicable.

a1711 Ken Hymnotheo Poet. Wks. 1721 III. 357 Each Plant, Worm, Mite,
Pebble we behold, Strange Wonders unexplainable enfold.  1858 Mrs.
Oliphant Laird of Norlaw II. 88 The unconscious, unexplainable poetic
elevation of the lad.  1875 Whitney Life Lang. x. 195 Facts which for
the time seem unexplainable by ordinary means.

I have no shauri with Scott's diction.
