Moreover, I think at some point not all that long ago, we did have a
discussion about artificial sweeteners. I've only been noticing the
warning for about the last couple of years, but I think they've been
around longer than that.

Aspartame can loosen one's bowels but it takes a fair bit. "Excess
consumption" probably varies from gut to gut.
