"I'll miss a friend who will go away.  It is not because he always
makes us laugh, but because he always makes us feel good about
ourselves."

Here what does "feel good about ourselves" mean?
I think I know the meaning  quite vaguely, but am not very sure.
Will you paraphrase it into some other expression?

Thank you.

That we think highly of our own character.

"Feeling good about oneself" means pretty much exactly what it says. It
means liking oneself, and feeling virtuous, optimistic, positive, happy
etc.

Incidentally, the first sentence in your example is not natural
English. It should be something like "I'll miss a friend who is going
away".

He's not kidding; he's right.

One can be right and kid about it.

Matt provided an answer to Noahna's question and also a suggestion about
the opening sentence. There was no reason to "kid about it." Note that
Matt wasn't rude; he was merely being helpful to someone unsure about
English usage.

Sorry Maria,
I took Noahna's question to be insincere.  I am so used to kooks
manipulating others without them apparently knowing it that I was
giving Matt a heads up.  Civic duty aborted.

You turn off the hood range.  Feels good the silence.
You turn off the negative thinking about yourself.  Feels good about
yer self.

Say what?  Did you mean the range-hood fan, or something like that?

> Feels good the silence.

That's Yoda-speak.  The silence feels good.

> You turn off the negative thinking about yourself.  Feels good about

That last sentence should be: You feel good about yourself.
