Yesterday, celebrating the holiday, two couples went into a San Diego
café after dinner, seeking something sweet and coffee. While sitting
at their table, a gunmen approached them and shot the two men. Is
there something beyond the ordinary in this tale? Some might argue
that the name of the establishment, "Extraordinary Desserts," gives a
certain twist to it -- but really, this is the sort of world we have
now, and it's just more of the same humdrum, no? The café's name is
clearly an exaggerated claim IMHO.

A friend here in San Diego had had her kitchen remodeled by the slain
patron in this story, and offered a bit of the story not reported in
the newspaper. The gunman had been in the restaurant as a patron and
was so noisy that Mr. Fineman (the slain patron) went to the manager to
complain. That complaint led to the killer's going out to his car,
getting a pistol, going back in and shooting Fineman. So there's a bit
of a lesson in the story -- be careful about whom you might complain.
