Quiz: What American accent do you have?

A short quiz, mostly based on what words rhyme or sound the same to
you: http://www.gotoquiz.com/results/what_american_accent_do_you_have

The American accent that is closest to mine, according to this quiz, is
"North Central".  It says this is the Minnesota accent and that 'if you
saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out
of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.'

I saw Fargo and definitely thought the characters talked funny.
However, I am a Canadian (southwestern Ontario), so I don't expect it
to apply for me.  Funny, though, that it said people "probably mistake
me for a Canadian a lot."

I'm, "Inland North", which, as I'm from Chicago, is spot on, though I'd
thought I'd lost more of it than that.

This was mentioned here a few months ago.  I went through it again,
just to see if the author has improved it.  He hasn't; the quiz still
thinks I'm from Chicawgo, which is not even close.

Apparently, I'm most probably from Philadelphia.

That's me too.  I have been on business there, but only for a few days at a
time.  All I can say is that I try to enunciate words clearly.  Is that
something Philadelphians do?  Not according to the latest Carl's Jr.

It still tells me I'm Inland North. I think we had discussion last time
about St. Louis swinging towards Inland North away from Midlands or
some such thing. I just think the quiz lacks some tell-tale vowel
checks.

Born in Arizona, raised in Southern California, and have lived most of
my life in the San Francisco area, yet the quiz says I'm from the
Inland North!  What a waste of time (mine and the author's).

I often mistake Ontarians for fellow countrymen. A lot of us in
western Canada do this.

[The Myth of the Canadian Accent]

Actually, only about half of us are.

>A lot of us in western Canada do this.

It's all that squinting at the horizon.  Ruins your eyes.

I pronounce the "ou" in "about" and "loud" differently, but only in that the
"ou" in "about" is shorter than in "loud". (Same is true with the "igh"
sound in "high school" versus "high times".) So it categorizes me as
"Minnesotan", in which region the vowel differs not only in length but in
actual vowel sound.

If I change that answer, it places me correctly was a West coaster.

Apparently, my accent tells the quizmaster that I "definitely have a
Boston Accent". I'm from Western Canada.
