All he wants to do is go to Los Angeles
and play soccer in sunny California rather
than contend with wet, muddy winters.

But everyone wants to be on his case!

Au contraire, all the media I've heard have said WTEO 'for that money,
who wouldn't do it?  Shame he didn't finish the final few years of his
effective playing career in a football-playing country, but who can
blame him?'

They _say_ it doesn't rain in Southern California.

"They" have obviously never been caught outdoors during a gullywasher.

That's the point of the song, isn't it?  They say it doesn't rain, but
it pours.

and movies", and is now "out of work, out of my head, out of self-
respect, out of bread", wants to go home, but is embarassed about
having failed.

without pouring.

It is true that it pretty much neither rains nor pours outside of the rainy
season, which is what SoCal has in lieu of winter.
