pain lit up the sides of my face like a jukebox

I had a fever of a hundred and four degrees, and each time I
swallowed, pain lit up the sides of my face like a jukebox  -- On
Writing, Stephen King

I am having difficulty understanding the later part of the sentence -
I guess it's because of I don't know what the jukebox is like.  I
would appreciate it if anybody would explain to me how to understand.
Thank you.

A picture doesn't really do the expression justice.  Those u-shaped
tubes (in the linked picture) were not just green and orange, they
were vibrant green and orange.  The probably pulsed with light and
might have had tiny bubbles of light dancing within some fluid.

An important point is that the orange, green and red parts round the
sides and top, and the yellow U in the lower half part of that
jukebox have lights inside them.

If you google on images of a jukebox, you can probably get the idea.

Jukebox, a delightful machine which holds and plays 45 rpm rock n roll records.

Your server is /way/ too slow for those huge .wav files. Try converting
them to mp3, or better still use a streaming server.

No, your hops / route / gateway / server / system is too slow.

Our home server delivers at three megabits per second, minimum.

Your bottleneck is Level3.net over there in London
and your own server. Nineteen hops to reach just
your server, with serious slow downs in London,
twice as slow there as here in America.

We know Joan here, but the AUE songstress mascot is Melanie:

You know that I'm not a gambler,
 But I'm bein' gambled on.
They put in a nickel and
 I sing a little song.

Put another nickel in, in the nickelodeon
All I want is having you and music, music, music!
I'd do anything for you, anything you'd want me to
All I want is kissing you and music, music, music!

Closer, my dear come closer
The nicest part of any melody
Is when you're dancing close to me

Put another nickel in, in the nickelodeon
All I want is loving you and music, music, music!

Picture an iPod, but make it five feet wide and five feet high, and speakers
instead of earbuds so everybody in the room is listening to the same song....r

I would think something five-foot wide and five-foot high but less
than half-an-inch deep would fall over. And who would have fingers big
enough to operate that IPOD? Then there's the computer needed to load
the music. It just keeps getting more confusing.

Or you've met somebody with very limite curiosity.

The recent album 'John Lennon's Jukebox' makes an interesting study of
musical influences, whether you like the Beatles or not.

No way.  Jukeboxes are still out there, but they're not your father's
jukebox.  For the last few years, jukeboxes have had internet access and for
a dollar (or whatever), you can download and play almost any song.  Some
songs are still hosted on the machine, but those are mostly tired, IMO.  Of
course, many establishments still have the CD jukeboxes, but they'll learn.

There is one cluttering up my garage, belonging to my younger son who has
lived in France for the last fifteen years.  One of these days he is going
to find someone to transport it to him.
