I read the piece through three times looking for the erstwhile
musician (who married my school friend).  I think he must have been
under cover, watching every move they made.

Does a single car count as a brothel?  "Ladies" sit in their cars at
well known pull-in spots along the N9 which runs near our French
village.  It's interesting to see how their fortunes change over the
years - one of them has recently upgraded from a small Fiat to a much
larger Citroen.  She must be doing OK.
