What is the meaning of the phrase "second life"?

We need context to answer this question. It is normal
in English to ascribe life to living individuals, dynasties,
genetic groups, ideas, nations etc. Because these
have different connotations, we must expect those of
"second life" also to vary with context.

Other things as well. "He was quite fond of his old shoe, and
couldn't part with it. Since it was no longer fit to wear, it enjoyed a
second life as a door stop in his workshop."

Also metempsychosis. I'm paraphrasing Woody Allen from memory (I don't
recall from which short story): he decided to start a new (second?)
life, this time as a frog.

Never metapsychosis I didn't try.

I've heard it used to mean reincarnation (in the theme song for the 1960s TV
show "My Mother The Car", for example)...but chances are it's referring to this:
"Second Life (abbreviated as SL) is an Internet-based virtual world launched in
2003, developed by Linden Research, Inc (commonly referred to as Linden Lab),
which came to international attention via mainstream news media in late 2006 and
early 2007. A downloadable client program called the Second Life Viewer enables
its users, called "Residents", to interact with each other through motional
avatars, providing an advanced level of a social network service combined with
general aspects of a metaverse. Residents can explore, meet other Residents,
socialize, participate in individual and group activities, create and trade
items (virtual property) and services from one another."
