To say 50% is good if the 50/100 is accurate. That is to say it is
definately less than 55% and more than 45%. If you just mean "around half"
then say half, otherwise it gives the impression of a greater accurace than
intended. Let me explain with a joke (If you don't want to let me then don't
read on!):
A visit to an Irish museum:
VISITOR: "Oooo! This dinosaur thing is big! How old is it?"
GUIDE: "It's about 3,500,000 years and 4 months old."
VISITOR: "Oh! SO accurate! How do you know that?"
GUIDE: "Well, er, it was 3,500,000 when I started
this job, and I have worked for the
Belfast museum for about 4 months."
