First there's his name -- "Murray"

"Murray" -- what the f*ck is a Murray?

Where'd he get that name from "Murray the K, the Fifth Beatle"?

Okay, it's not your fault Murray, but geezus Christ, this is 2009, not
1969.

You came here with a friggin' Eisenhower era name and you have the nerve
to tell me my writing sucks?

You know what Murray, is? It's some schmuck running a insurance/real
estate/ furniture store out of a rent controlled store-front in the Bronx.

It's some fat bald guy on TV yelling, "I can get it for you wholesale --
just ask for Murray!"

It's your grandfather's name from the old country.

It's the name three of your great-uncles had.

It's what every other immigrant on Ellis Island was named.

And you bring it here without enough sense to change it.

What's your point, Murray?

What are you trying to prove, dude?

What statement are you trying to make waving your Ellis Island name in
everybody's face like a bloody rag, Murray?

Talk to me, Murray.

I like you.

I'm you're friend.

and who are you to judge anyone by a name?

"landers"  was that the name of the Dutch slave trader that introduced
your bloodline into the Americas?

you should be true to your family heritage and write something that
reflects your culture, maybe "a 100 ways to pick cotton"

I don't need anyone to defend me. I really don't care what he says about
me. What is interesting, though, is how sensitive he is at being
discovered living at his mother's home, unable to support himself and
lying about himself. The lad chooses to make a fool of himself. I
respect his choice. He can continue without interference from me.

Well, that's it for you, Murray.

I gave you a chance to display this supposed genius of yours and you
reply with the kind of response your name suggests -- a neurotic one.

Who but a guy named "Murray" would drag someone's mother into a
discussion on creative writing?

The shrinks call this "projection" and "transference", Murray.

You can't help it -- even though you're middle-age, you still have
mother issues.

"Put on clean underwear, Murray -- God forbid, you should get hit by a
car with those dirty ones on!"

Well, I'm not going to psychoanalysis you for free, Murray, so you can
forget about that.

No freebies.

You've got my email address. Pay-pal me $100 and we can start the
therapy you need.

'Landers' doesn't sound very Dutch,
and the family name is very rare in the Netherlands.

An immigrant, probably,
