The following is an excerpt from books review.

I grew up with those books. In their pages I discovered a host of
great
literary figures. It helped make me a lifelong reader.

The "helped make"  is "verb + verb".
Would anyone please explain the above grammar.

Thanks in advance.

There is an implied 'to' between the two verbs

No:  helped make = auxiliary verb + main verb.
"Help" is a special type of auxiliary verb (like the modal
auxiliary verbs) i.e. not functionally identical with has/had,
do/did and the more common auxiliary verbs:  but
remains (in this sentence) an auxiliary verb as distinct
from a main verb.

Thank you very much. Your explanation is very clear and helpful.

Please read the following excerpt from Wikipeida. Do we have more
auxiliary verbs than Wiki mentioned in its documents?

--quote--

There are 6 auxiliary verbs in English: be, have, do, can, may and
should. Conjugated we obtain 24 auxiliary words: am, is, are, shall,
should, be, being, been, was, were, will, would, has, have, had, do,
does, did, can, could, may, might, must, ought(to)

Thanks in advance.
