The DJIA has been rising fairly steadily for a couple of months now.
How long does it have to do that before we can way we have a bull
market?

It was a typo.  I'm wondering if his surname also includes a typo.  No
kidding.  I have a cousin (named Steve, coincidentally) who once spelled
his first name "stevei", and either never noticed it, or just decided to
leave it that way.  It's on his email address, though, and I see it
every other day or so.

Oh. The old bull market died.  My farmer friends say it takes about two
years for a new one to really have the nuts.

People in AUE usually don't make an issue of obvious typos.

Oh, you'd be surprised.

Right, the context indicates clearly what you meant.

But only this time I'm very curious if your last name is "Sorenson" or
"Sorensen", and if it's the latter, are you related to the great Ted?

It's 'Sorensen' when I'm sober, but so far as I know, I'm not even
distantly related to Ted the Great.

'Distantly' is of course a relative term.  Everyone is related to
everyone else at some distance.

I didn't 'make an issue' out of anything. I was merely pointing out that you
can call the maket a bull market if  that is what you consider from its
recent performance, while trying to ensure I was answering the right
question.

No time limit.  If the market is going up, it's a bull market.  If
it's going down, it's a bear market.  Over a week, it may be one or
the other.  Over a month, ditto.  Over a year...

If you want precision, like "you need to wait just another 139
day,until Augut 15, 2009 at 4:17 PM" you'd better consult an oracle.

Otherwise, let your nature be your guide: if you're an optimist, call
it a "Bull Market" right now, no need to wait for the aue's green
light.

As long as stock prices are growing, it's a bull market.
As long as commodity prices are growing, it's a bear market.
When both grow, you are having inflation.

Fifth version was posted in November, and I think the Alto part sounds
more like a baseline, while the baseline sounds more like a Tenor, and
the Tenor is my melody, so it should be the Alto part, if I follow
tradition.
Still, I think it works, so I posted it.

Nicely put.  Wrong ... but nicely put.  Very succinct and fully
grammatical.

I'm not going to bother posting what's correct.  Either you're joking
or -- God forbid you're not -- you can find the correct definitions
all over the Web.

Tending toward bull (in his posting, anyway)
