"Monkeys recognise 'bad grammar'"

I propose that the Committee insist upon all posters to AUE declaring
their degree of monkeydom.

According to cladistics, we're all monkeys - and fish.  If any of your
ancestors ever belonged to a clade then you belong to that clade.  It's
an expression of the nested hierarchy of life.  I'm sure non-human
monkeys wouldn't recognize bad spelling, however.

At best is only a monkey shaved.

And monkeys as well, in that the common ancestor of modern apes and
monkeys was probably something we would describe as a monkey.

And according to cladistics we are also simultaneously a lot of other
things such as mammal-like reptiles and fish.

As I understand it, we are not descended from apes but from a common
ancestor of apes and humans that itself was neither, and ditto for
the monkeys.

Primordial slime, actually.

In some cases, no doubt. But speaking for myself, my own primordial
ancestors were not slimy in the least. They bathed regular, with the
best natural soaps, in the most genteel of hot springs. Why, we swam
with king Bladud in the baths of Sulis, and that story of his pigs, it
was pure mud, not a drop of slime in sight.

By God, Paul, We may be related.

(Or not. All those stories I've heard about my ancestors may have been,
uh, off a bit.)

Reminds me of a letter (I forget the writer's name) to National Geographic
Magazine some years ago, referring to an article or articles on
evolution:

"When I look at my wife and three beautiful daughters I find it difficult
to believe that we are all descended from primaeval slime. On the other
hand, my father-in-law may be the evidence you're looking for."
