I've been looking at the names in the UK New Years Honours List.
Names are mostly given in a normal style except that males who are Mr
are listed without the "Mr".
There is another oddity, to my eyes. A woman who is "Mrs" is listed as
<first names>, Mrs. <surname>, for example: "Pauline Joan, Mrs. Spencer"
and "Jessie, Mrs. Wojciechowski".
Those are recipients of the OBE.
Other recipients of that award are:
Francis Dominic Nicholas Michael Rossi, Co-Founder
and Singer, Status Quo. For services to Music and to
Charity.
Richard Parfitt, Co-Founder, Singer and Guitarist,
Status Quo. For services to Music and to Charity.
Another familiar name is:
Dr. Miriam Stoppard. For services to Healthcare and
to Charity.

I am past caring whether the wife of Mr John Smith should be addressed
as Mrs Smith, Mrs John Smith or Mrs Mary Smith etc.
What really causes the bile to rise in my craw is the fact that
acceptance of honours from this corrupt government could be
contemplated by anyone who professes to be "rock'n'roll".

[Abstaining from answering with a quiet wondering why rock'n'roll
is considered noncorrupt - not to talk about Status Quo]

The awards to the aging rockers are non-political. They were not decided
by politicians.

This is just a best guess, but I think it's because the surname of a "Mrs"
is usually her husband's and not her birthname so they are following the
convention that gave us Diana, Princess of Wales. Who would have been "Lady
Diana, Mrs Windsor" if her husband hadn't been oversupplied with titles much
grander than her own earl's daughter one; or possibly plain "Diana, Mrs
Windsor" after The Revolution.

Actually, no. She would have been "Lady Diana Morton" (no "Mrs") if she had
married me - an unlikely suggestion for at least two reasons.
