Hello:

"she ran scurrying into cupboards"
what is the exact grammatical equivalent of his?

Is it
"she was scurrying into cupboards"
or
"she ran to the cupboards, in an agitated, confused manner?"

[Hagar gets a farewell/"thank you" note from her cousin, Milkman, her
former lover, and becomes hungry for his blood.]

The "thank you" cut her to the quick, but it was not the reason she
ran scurrying into cupboards looking for weapons.

Literally, it sounds like she was scurrying in the cupboards, which is
impossible because most cupboards are too small for anything other than
a mouse to scurry in. So I think 'scurrying' must apply to "running",
although it would be more natural to say "She scurried to the cupboards".

It's probably part of Morrison's style.

Yes.  I read "into" as almost separate from the rest.  She ran
scurrying (in her agitation) to the cupboards and pushed into them in
her search for weapons.

Thank you both.
