The name "Mariu" as in "Parlami d'amore Mariù"

Dear Everyone:

In the Italian film, "Gli uomini, che mascalzoni!" (What Scoundrels
Men Are!, 1932), there is the famous song, "Parlami d'amore
Mariù" (Mary, speak about love to me).

My question is about the name "Mariu". Is it an Italian form of
"Mary"? Or is it the Italian form of "Mary" in some sort of
declension?

This seems to indicate that »la Mariù« is »Mary«.
So, in this case, both names seems to be closely related.

(»Mariuccia« is a diminutive of »Maria«, »Mariù« might
possibly be an abbreviation of »Mariuccia«.)

Thank you, alan and Stefan, for your replies!

But, are both "Mariuccina" (with an 'n') and "Mariuccia" (without an
'n') diminutive forms for Maria? In the Internet, there are many more
"Mariuccias" than "Mariuccinas", though.

I am not surprised.
Mari-ucc-ina is two layers of hypocoristic (child talk) wrapping: taken
togethet they convey the concept "Maria, pretty (ucc) little (ina)" . Use
only if subject is 5 or less, or in a very intimate relationship and not
too often even then, or know what you are doing. In suitable context, such
as a quarrel, can even be used for implicit insulting: "Maria, you dear
child-brained one".
