After laying 4,476 kilometers of cable, AT&T workers returned to shore
for more, allowing scientists to get 19 days of data with the unpowered
cable grounded to the ocean floor.  Using some fancy statistical
footwork, the researchers separated out the direct-current (DC)
component due to the core currents from the tangle of
alternating-current (AC) signals arising from a variety of sources, such
as  the erratic flow of ions in the ionosphere, that induced currents in
Earth.  They obtained a DC potential voltage drop (which is proportional
to current) of 0.072 ± 0.050 millivolts per kilometer.

So, you are proposing that it is specifically the structure of the
*english* language that imposes erroneous assumptions in the minds of
its (presumably native) speakers and, thus, causes most of what is
wrong with the world? May we assume that before the advent of the
English language, that the world was just peachy? If we grew up bi- or
tri-lingual, is our responsibility for the world's woes halved or
thirded?

Presumably, gendo allows us natives to use the phrase:  "I plead
'gendo' your honor; I can't be held responsible because my parents
raised me speaking English," and, therefore, avoid any need for
self-flagellation.

Hello Heron,

I'm glad mirage raised this question because I've been burning to ask
it too. Does gendo believe that unconscious, erroneous assumptions are
caused by the structure of ANY language (i.e. our mother tongue, be it
Flemish, Norwegian or English, etc.) or does it just believe that the
English language is at fault?

hi Jan

.i assume that it applies to all languages, but since
english appears to be taking over, i think it's
important to begin eliminating the stupidities from
   english

.belief, itself, is the great sin

.i presume that all languages are subject to this problem
.but i'm concentrating my efforts on debugging english
.i'll leave the rest to others

.well, yes, that's true
.most sapes are unconscious language robots most of the time,
but once you know that, it's no longer an excuse
