Hi there,
I'm helping my cusin who is working on his marketing thesis about
"brand equity" and we would like to know the meaning of "spin off" in a
marketing context.
Thank you and take care

In marketing, a "spin-off" is a brand that comes from another brand.
Pepsi One is a spin-off of Pepsi, for instance. A better example would
probably be...hmm...Nescafe Frappucino envelopes are a spin-off of
Nescafe Instant Coffee.

So let's say a company makes shoes, and its most popular line of shoes
are called "Beeters," under the general brand name of "Meet."
Furthermore, let's say more people prefer "Meet Beeters" in the country
"Munkeeland" than all other brands of shoes. You might introduce a
special version of "Meet Beeters" in Munkeeland called "Munkee
Spankers" aimed at a more specific group within the population of
Munkeeland (who might not enjoy "Meet Beeters" as much as some other
groups), and advertise your product with a cute little jingle featuring
images of attractive members of that demographic doing some kind of
communal activity.

You know, something like:

"Munkee Spankers" and "Meet Beeters,"
Do it more with your feeters,
We like to play,
We don't like to work,
All we want to do is jerk!

You could also probably figure out some kind of word that rhymes with
"Spankers" and switch the products around in the first line, but I'm
not British and I wouldn't know.

If "Munkee Spankers"  take off and you start building factories in some
Godforsaken part of the world to stamp them out like cookies, you will
have spun off another useful product for those in need.

There you are, ladies. Good luck in the wonderful world of marketing.

Dear "credum qua absurda" (at last something in Latin and not in
English, for us much easier!!!),
thank you so much for you prompt and deep answer and your time. You
have not given us just an answer but also much more, really very
helpful for my cousin and his study.
Have a good week
