knockout problem

Hi,
I've got a little language problem with phrase: National Knockout Sports
Event - this is my project to be prepared by the end of this week and I
am still not sure about meaning of its topic.
I would be grateful if anyone could help me with this.

Knockout means that the team or individual
is out of the tournament at the very first loss.
