To teach ESL in public schools you need to be a fully
certified teacher according to the rules of whichever state.
The same rules don't apply to teaching ESL overseas,
or at home to adults.

Use the web to check state universities in your area or SF area.
They might have something similar to the Columbia
program but cheaper.
If you have a degree and are a native English speaker, you
may not need TESL certification.
Google for > ESL cafe jobs board < to see the possibilities.
All sorts of scenic places you could combine painting
and teaching ESL.
