privation:
1 a : an act or instance of depriving : DEPRIVATION *the physiological

The dictionary is your friend. Try the Collins Cobuild:

privation
       privation
If you suffer privation or privations, you have to live without
many of the things that are thought to be necessary in life, such as
food, clothing, or comfort. (FORMAL)
They endured five years of privation during the second world
war.
The privations of monastery life were evident in his
appearance.
    N-UNCOUNT: also N in pl
    = hardship

deprivation
       deprivation   deprivations
If you suffer deprivation, you do not have or are prevented from
having something that you want or need.
...long-term patients who face a life of deprivation...
Millions more suffer from serious sleep deprivation caused by
long work hours.
...the effects of social deprivations on families.
    N-VAR: oft supp N
