I hope I'm not violating any rules of this group with this post. If so, I
apologize.
Anyway, here goes: I made a website dedicated to English teaching and
learning. Teachers can create their own courses there, with lesson
material, quizzes, journals, forums, assignments and such. These courses
can accompany the teacher's real classroom work, or they can be online
courses. The teacher can set up an enrolment key, in this case the students
can only enroll if they got the key. Without enrolment key, the course will
be available to all registered students. Courses can be in weekly mode, or
in topic mode. The possibilities are too many to list them all here.
The URL of the site is http://www.openenglish.net. If you're interested in
trying what you can do there as a teacher, register with the site, and send
a request to the site admin with your user id (I have to set you up as a
teacher). Also, tell me which categories of courses you would like to see.
If you think this is rubbish, let me know, and also why, please. I'd really
like to hear your opinions.
And now for the disclaimer: I am not doing this to make money. The site's
services are free. The basic idea is to give teachers a tool to teach
online without being bothered with HTML, Javascript, SQL, XML and so on.
There *are* actually a few things I hope to gain: I hope this site will
become a beehive of activity. I'm a programmer now, but I hope to be a
teacher of English one day, so I thought this might be a way to get in
touch with teachers and teaching. If the site is a success, it might be
easier for me later to find a job as a teacher.
Well, thanks for your patience. If you're still with me, you might as well
click on the link :) --> http://www.openenglish.net

Hmm, I forgot to mention that the software on this site is not written by
me. I'm using Moodle, which is Open Source (see http://www.moodle.org).

To make it easier to have a look at this, I added a teacher account
'testteacher' with the password 'test', and a student account 'teststudent'
with the same password. No need to go through the process of registration.

Hi Juergen
The site looks nice, and the open access gives it a lot of appeal to
people teaching in small independent schools in many countries. For
people teaching at universities and colleges you're competing with big
name products like WebCT and Blackboard. Let's see how it develops!

Er, I must admit that this software is new to me, too. I didn't know you
can register as a teacher. I thought I (the admin) had to make you a
teacher! How did you do it?
However, in the site you are listed as a course creator. You should be able
to create courses, then. Have you tried this? You should see a box
"Administration" with "Courses" in it in the lower left.
I believe if you open an existing course, and enroll in it, you're a
student automatically. But you can always unenroll from these courses.
Thanks a lot for trying, and for your opinion!

Ahh, I know what you did! You logged in as "testteacher" and changed the
profile. I was confused because I had you listed with your name.
Hmm, as I published the "testteacher" login and password here, everybody
can log in and see your details. I'm not sure if this is what you wanted. I
removed your email address from the profile, just in case.
You can create your own account anytime, if you're interested. Just let me
know (mail to site admin, front page) and I'll promote you to be a teacher
at the Open English Network. :)

Hi Juergen
I'll try it again later - yes I'd appreciate you taking my email address
off.
Cheers
