It is quite probable taht you already know quite a lot about RFID
(whatever that is).

In modern security systems people who are entitled to access to certain
installations have an identity card. The two types mentioned in this
sentence are (a) one where you simply hold the card near a device that
can then read the information on the card (often contained in a chip)
and (b) another type with information on a piece of magnetic tape (like
on a bank card) where you have to pull the card through a slit on the
reader (this is known as swiping, for some reason I've never been able
to work out) - the action here is often a downward movement through a v
vertical slit.
