I am looking for a composition book recommendation. I would like to
read a book that contains examples, taken from modern writing and/or
political speeches, that illustrate the various sections of
Aristotle's Rhetoric. Does anyone have any recommendations. I
searched my local public and university libraries without success. -

Canopus,
Your msg was forwarded by a printing/XMTL-CD/website service I am
talking to.
To my knowledge, there is not a "modern" interpretation of the
Rhetoric -- many translations, commentaries, oblique references to (and
misinformation about) this work.
That said, I am writing one, with particular emphasis on public
speaking but also using many contemporary examples and illustrations.
Much -- but not all -- of what A. wrote about can be extended to
writing (eg, on metaphor).
Rather than tell you "wait 6 months or so and I plan/hope to be
done", I would be happy to try to respond to particular questions or
topics that you might be especially interested in. I have 35 years of
teaching a common sense interpretation of the Rhetoric, and hundreds of
pages of notes.
Fell free to contact me --
