Often in chat rooms the need to translate comes up. I am sure there are
many but http://world.altavista.com/ Babel Fish is handy.
My wish would be that Yahoo or another Messenger would translate on the fly.
I am posting here hoping enough other people would think this idea was
useful and suggest to Yahoo to incorporate it in Messenger.
Anyone think it is a bad idea?

I think it's a brilliant idea. Would you like to make a start on the
architecture of online software to actually do it?

You say that like it would be hard to do. If you go to Babel Fish you can
see one in action. Also if you have ever used Yahoo Messanger you would
also understand that adding the code to do so would be trivial. All it
takes is demand.

Thanks, I have. And since I'm a big fan of Irene Grandi but don't
speak Italian very well I put one of her songs through:-
"Something of magical has succeeded also to we the wind singing ce
will say it knows If you will still call to me If you will still call
to me However they are Scents of festivity I imagine for you Are sure
that soon I will be those that is If you will still call to me If you
will still call to me However they are One cloud white woman E' time
that rises the moon in the E' sky; time that comes a d'amore day If
you will still call to me If you will still call to me However is
L'uomo of the telephones is close to me Sings a song remembers me of
you If you will still call to me If you will still call to me However
they are One cloud white woman Calm smoke in my hut the crocodile
holds me company If you us six Dimmi anchor if us six anchor However
is them Is the six is l'ora of the tea Men in frac appaion for me If
you us six Dimmi anchor if us six anchor However is One cloud white
woman".
I think we've all felt that sometimes.

Let me put it this way (with the help of BabelFish):
L'innovateur your seizure has of course something which is said
for.

Ah, right. Why didn't he say that to start with?

I am not suggesting that BableFish is perfect by any means, but being able
to type in English and have it translated to "your language" and then back
on the fly would be useful.
You are not suggesting that BableFish is not useful are you?
It would be a minor change in the way Messenger works. Yahoo knows each
user's native language and having the option to translate using some a
BableFish interface would be easier than the way BableFish works now.
I guess because it would not be perfect is reason enough not to try. We
need a voice translator, but I want to see the code for that.
