Can anyone suggest me which is the best and most exhaustive Grammar of
the  English Language?
I am looking for a Grammar not for foreign students, as I am, but
possibly a text used by English native speakers at school or at
University.
Thanks in advance

I'd suggest "A Grammar of Contemporary English" by Randolph Quirk, S
Greenbaum, G. Leech & J. Svartik - it's out of print but it's available
second-hand at amazon.uk from about £33 - see
<http://www.amazon.co.uk/Grammar-Contemporary-English-Randolph-Quirk/dp/058252444

There's also a second-hand ex-library copy available on Anebooks.uk at
<http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=5893383206&searchurl=an%3Dqui

for £9.99 + postage & packing.

Since you have an Italian Name and address, perhaps you could
ask this question to the Italian NG devoted to English
language:

it.cultura.linguistica.inglese

There I read that Swan's book is really good.

Swan's book isn't a grammar book - it's a guide to usage. But it is good.

In fact. I've got it and I agree: it's very good but what I'm looking
for is a real Grammar. Thanks to you both for the good advice. Should
you think of another more easily available text, please let me know.

Less expensive and more readily available - but not as comprehensive -
is Thomson & Martinet's "A Practical English Grammar".

I believe there may even be a PDF of this book available on the Internet
for downloading - but I'm doubtful of the legality of doing so.

Years ago prof. David Crystal was interviewed in a Slovenian TV
program, on English language and other.

Is he a good author?

Yes, he's one of the leading authorities - but he's more concerned with
linguistics than with grammar as such.
