Hello,
I am a learner of English and I have a doubt about the pronunciation
of the word "azure" (the colour)?
All the dictionaries I've checked list /'AZ@(r)/ as the recommended
pronunciation but I've asked two English people and they say they'd
always say /@'zjo:/ or perhaps /@'Zo:/ or /@'zjU@/ (and permutations)
but they wouldn't say or understand /'AZ@/
(/A/ as in "apple", /@/ is schwa, /Z/ as in measure)
What do you say? (supposing you say anything at all, I know that's a
pretty uncommon word)

/az-yuur/

the /a/ is as in 'apple' and there is no schwa in 'azure'.

That is how I say it, and how it is described in the OED  (the version which
uses alphabetic letters).

Ok, thank you!
By the way, for the sake of exhaustiveness,
I've just checked on the Longman pronounciation dictionary
and it says:
Reccomended British RP: /'AZ@/
Other British pronunciations:
/'eIZ@/ (like the continent)
/'AZU@/
/'eIZU@/
/'AZjU@/
/'eIZjU@/
/'AzjU@/ (which should be "yours")
/'eIzjU@/
/@'zjU@/

American Pronunciation: /'AZ@r/

Except in heraldry: the heraldic colour is pronounced with a long 'a'.

This surprised me, but you're absolutely right.

Old dog + old tricks = possible.
