Would you find the use of the "there" odd? Is it better to change

My daughter has an assignment where she is supposed to underline the
Complete Subject and write the Simple Subject.
There's a difference?

I was in Japan last week.  Once I wanted to ask a counterperson to give me
10 1000yen notes in exchange for a 10000yen note on my hand.  What
