I note from recent posts that you're still reading "The Ambassadors".
I commented on another thread, drawing attention to my wife's review
of this book for her reading group's website (the website now, alas,
"to have him joined" and "to have him join"01 Dec 2009 08:41 GMT20
Hello again -
I have a puzzle about this sentence, "it has been great to have him
join me on the Learning Annex's wave of success."
I always see a structure of "to have him joined xxxxx" instead of " to

some moron said (this thread) that the use of unnecessary *R*s (ahs) was
regional .... & that it is widely
spoken by people from the southern UK.
This is total & utter nonsense.  I know of more than 1 fellow northern

Listening to the original radio production of "Miracle on 34th St.",
on the Old Time Radio Hour, live at wamu.org from 7 to 11 ET on
Sundays, which includes an ad for Lux soap, and the announcer
pronounced lingerie as if it ended in ee, which it does in French.

James is giving a lot of attention to the notion of "type." I wonder
if these days we see more "character" used instead, in fiction at
least.
