An opinion per se isn't about anything. An opinion is a commitment.
The idea, proposition or statement that an individual commits himself to
is public, not private.

In the following sentence, does the word 'but' mean 'except'?
"The beef and pork you eat have also helped but clotted the blood
veins in your brain."
