Sorry if this has been done to death already.
Is it true that the word gotten was originally part of English English?
If so, then when did it disappear (I'm assuming it is now verboten)?
It does seem to me that there are occasions when I feel we have lost

I've recently noticed the BBC hyphenating the phrase "no one" (as in no-one)
on their web pages and on ceefax (teletext?) I've always written this as two
distinct words and am now wondering if I'm wrong or behind the times.
Are we seeing an evolution which will eventually lead to ...
