I am somewhat confused about the proper British pronunciation of words
like "ordinarily", "temporarily", and "momentarily".
As I understand it, in British pronunciation the adjectives
"ordinary", "temporary", and "momentary" all have a silent "a",

A reader of the community newsletter I edit has objected violently
to a regular (satirical) columnist's use of this denomination for
one of our councillors. Does anyone know when, why and in what
context it was first used publicly? None of the Google quotes I
